How to add it
- Pick a widget, a theme and a width. If your article has its own example, set the starting numbers.
- Copy the code and paste it into your page's HTML or into the “Custom HTML” / “Embed” block of your editor.
- If your editor strips script tags, keep just the iframe and the credit line: the widget still works, at a fixed height.
Terms of use
- Free. For newsrooms, blogs, schools, credit unions and commercial sites. No signup, no approval needed.
- One condition: keep the link. Keep the “Calculator provided by DelDebt” credit under the widget and the link inside it, and don't hide them.
- No tracking of your readers. The widget sets no cookies and loads no analytics or ads. The numbers readers enter never leave their browser: the math runs on their device. Our server serves the widget like any web page and keeps only a standard technical request log.
- Lightweight. A single small HTML document with no third-party fonts or libraries, about 5 KB over the wire.
- For information only. Interest is APR/12 on the balance each month, the same math as the DelDebt calculators and planner. Lenders accrue interest daily, so their numbers can differ by a few dollars. We may refine formulas and wording; the widget URL stays the same.
How the widgets calculate
- Shorter term or lower payment. The lump sum is paid now. “Shorten the term” keeps the payment and ends the loan sooner. “Lower the payment” (a recast) re-amortizes the balance over the same remaining term. Shortening the term never costs more interest.
- Snowball vs. avalanche. Each month every debt gets its minimum; the extra amount and the minimums of paid-off debts go to one debt: the smallest balance (snowball) or the highest APR (avalanche). It's the same engine as the DelDebt planner.
- Total interest. Fixed payment: a standard amortized loan. Equal principal: the same principal each month plus interest on the balance, so the payment declines.
Starting numbers in the URL
The builder above adds them to the code for you. To edit by hand: term — balance, rate, months, lump; overpay — amount, rate, months, type=diff; snowball — extra and debts=balance:apr:payment separated by commas; all — theme=light or dark.
